Nursery Decor - (if I'm lucky)

Even though we have not done a single thing in the nursery I think that I sort of have it finished in my mind. The room is small and I know that all we will be able to fit in there is a rug, crib, change table, one shelf for books/toys and a rocker for me. The room itself is painted in a lightened up version of a brown paper bag shade which I have finally decided will have to go. Also, since we do not know the gender of this little kicking machine, we will have to keep things somewhat neutral.

I also want to keep things fairly cheap. Cheap sounds like a dirty word to use in a nursery but frankly, i know that the kid will only someday happily chew, spit up or draw upon most surfaces in this room.


Imagine my joy to find a set of 12, yes, 12 prints by artist Suzy Ultman for around 26 dollars for the whole lot! They are great graphic prints of snails with houses on their backs and kites with cute moustaches. Top a few of these off with the $6.00 'RAM' frames from IKEA and the decor is done. I'll pull a color from one of the prints (orange? green? yellow?) and get some paint mixed to match for below the chair rail in the room and leave the top half of the wall white.

We have also picked out a slim-lined rocking chair from IKEA since the room is so narrow and all other chairs seem to be honking-large and over $1000. You have to imagine this one with the wood bits painted out white or some other colour, but its really comfortable and quite perfect in my eyes.The only really major endeavor that I am going to attempt to tackle is making my first quilt. I can sew, so I figure that a quilt can't be that hard, can it? Yet I know in my mind this may end in many nights of tears. I have the pattern and most of the fabric for Denise Schmidt's 'Single Girl' quilt and am going to attempt to sew this beauty up. I may even make my way down to The Workroom here in Toronto where they have 'Quilt Sundays' the last Sunday of every month for help and support.
